Heater Information
Q: Problem: Insufficient or non existent heat output from a Curtis tuck away heater.
A: Solution: The Curtis heater, like the heater in a car, generates heat from the vehicle’s engine. In nearly all cases, the heater should generate enough heat from your UTV, side by side, or tractor engine that you may need to turn the heater off periodically otherwise the air in the cabin may be too hot.

If your heat output is only lukewarm or cold, it is usually because there is air in the system. To bleed the air out of the system, use the following steps. Note: for John Deere Gator HPX or XUV models, skip down to the last paragraph at the bottom of this trouble shooting guide. For all other models, begin here with the next step:

If the heater is located up high (near or above the top of the radiator), remove it from the mounting bracket and let it hang upside down from the hoses.

Confirm that the heater’s in?line shut?off valve is open and that the engine is cold. Note: an alternative to waiting for the engine to cool is to temporarily put a clamp on the top radiator hose of a warm engine. Remove the clamp once the heater is producing hot air. Start the engine and either drive the vehicle around or depress the accelerator while parked to increase the engine RPM. This will increase the pressure and flow of the water pump forcing more coolant through the heater.

If the heater stops producing heat after you reinstall it to the mounting bracket and it starts producing heat again when you remove it from the mounting bracket, then your vehicle’s water pump does not produce enough pressure to run the coolant through the heater. You will need to purchase an in?line booster pump (available through Curtis Industries, LLC.).

For John Deere Gator HPX or XUV models only, follow this procedure: Note: the HPX and XUV cooling systems are different from each other and from all other models. The heaters connect differently. Check the original installation instructions and confirm that the heater is connected properly for your particular model. Next, remove the cap from the bleeder just behind the heater (see step2E of the original installation instructions). Install a two to three foot length of garden hose to the tee and clamp a funnel to the other end of the hose. Fill the funnel with coolant and have an assistant hold the funnel and end of hose as high up as possible. Start the engine. Note: if the engine is not cold, temporarily clamp the upper radiator hose only until heat is achieved. Gravity along with the water pump pressure should force the coolant through the heater core. Once the heater is blowing hot air, shut the engine off, allow the engine to cool then reinstall the cap on the bleeder.

Q: Problem: If the door does not shut completely or has a gap in the fron or back sealing area due to vehicle variation, the following adjustment may be required.
A:
Solution: Remove the sideframe end of the gas shock by releasing the metal clip and pulling the housing off the pivot ball. Loosen the two top pivot bolts.

From the inside, pull the door grab handle and hold while retightening the two top pivot bolts. Reinstall the
gas shock on the pivot ball.

If further adjustment of the door is required, the hinge location can be modified. Remove the seat, loosen the four hinge bolts.

From the inside, pull the door grab handle and hold while retightening the four hinge bolts. Reinstall the
seat.
